Resin incense has been in use for ages. It is used for ceremonies, aromatherapy, meditation and creating a spiritual atmosphere:

Use a heat proof dish
Fill bottom with sand
Place a lit charcoal tablet on top of sand
Sprinkle 1/4 tsp of resin chunks on tablet
Resin will burn for 5 - 10 min
