Boxed - Metalized Quartz Geodes (1 kg)

The inside of these metalized microcrystaline geode specimens from Morocco are covered with beautiful tiny, naturally terminated crystals and have a polished front. They are then given a metal infusion to produce a light or dark iridescent sheen. Geodes can be sold individually or as a full box.

These small geodes are composed of various forms of quartz. The inner core is commonly the crystaline variety, while the outer skin is made up of microcrystaline quartz or agate. They are formed from volcanic gas balls which cooled and formed hard outter coatings. The inside is mostly hollow with many crystals that formed when the minerals and gases cooled.

Silica (SiO2) is the building block of pure quartz, which happens to comprise more than 10 percent of the outer crust of Earth. Quartz was once thought to be solidified light and it is known as the master stone. In terms of crystals, quartz can be broken down into two major types; macro-crystalline (large six-sided crystals), and cryptocrystalline (micro), meaning the crystals are too small to be seen, even through a microscope. To break it down further, when quartz occurs as singular crystal points or clusters of points, it is considered macro-crystalline. This form of quartz is commonly transparent or translucent; though opaque forms also exist. It is noteworthy that while the macro versions may also appear within massive formations of cryptocrystalline (micro) quartz, not all varieties of cryptocrystalline appear as a macro version.
